The Maam Giingana Gumbaynggirr School students visited Muurrbay recently and were welcomed by Uncle Gary Williams. We told them about the process of making books like the Gumbaynggirr dictionary-grammar and how older editions are expanded and improved over the decades. Uncle Micklo told the Giidany story and shared Gumbaynggirr Language and the teachers ran some Language classes and Aunty Lorraine from the AECG dropped in to. The gamambi asked about the process of book making and one young man enquired about whether there were any jobs going, we suggested he definitely should return in a few years
The gamambi sang some Gumbaynggirr songs for us to say Darrundang. They were so respectful and joyous and a credit to their families and all the staff at the Maam Giingana school, we hope to meet up again soon.
